Who was Grace Cook?
The school is named after Grace Cook (1877 – 1958), a pioneering astronomer who was born and lived in Stowmarket. She was one of the first group of women who were elected as Fellows of the Royal Astronomical Society, and was a leading expert on meteors and comets. It is important to the Trust that the name for the school had a strong local connection and that it will inspire the children. Grace Cook is a great role model; she was a pioneer who campaigned for women’s rights in science, she was innovative in her work, and she looked well beyond her horizons!
